Mentoring and coaching

Get clear direction on your next move, not generic career advice.

One-to-one mentoring for experienced technology professionals with a real decision to make about their career, their capability or the role they are about to take on. Everything starts with a free call, and if mentoring is not what you need, you will hear that on the call rather than after you have paid.

The discovery call is free

Every engagement begins with a short call, because the right recommendation can only be made once I understand what you are actually trying to change.

How it works

Four steps, and the first one costs you nothing.

The shape is the same whichever format you choose, because the work only pays off when both of us are clear about what it is meant to achieve.

Step 01
Start with a free discovery call

We spend twenty to thirty minutes on where you are now, what you are trying to change and whether I am the right person to help you change it. Nothing is owed at the end of it.

Step 02
Choose the format that matches the goal

I recommend the format that fits the work in front of you, whether that is one session on a single decision or three months of structured mentoring. Where the smaller option would do the job, I will say so.

Step 03
Agree what success looks like

The first paid session sets a written goal, so progress becomes something we can both measure rather than something that merely feels productive.

Step 04
Work through it together

Every session runs against that goal and ends with a written summary of what was agreed, and support between sessions is included from the sprint upwards.

Session formats

Five formats, so the commitment matches the goal.

Sessions run for sixty minutes as a rule, which is long enough to get somewhere and short enough to hold real concentration. Ninety minutes is available for a single session when the subject genuinely warrants it.

Packages

Choose the package that fits how far you want to go.

Packages rather than an hourly rate, because the results come from working at something over time rather than from one good conversation. The price per session falls as the commitment grows.

Short and targeted
Focused Sprint
A$1,850

Five sessions across six to eight weeks, built around one goal you want to reach soon, such as a move you are weighing up or a gap you need to close before an interview.

  • Five sessions of sixty minutes
  • A written goal agreed in the first session
  • A summary and agreed actions after each one
  • Email and short voice notes between sessions

Payable in full, or half at the start and half at the midpoint.

Continuous support
Ongoing Mentoring
A$1,100 a month

Two sessions a month with priority access in between, for senior professionals who want a steady sounding board rather than a programme with an end date.

  • Two sessions of sixty minutes each month
  • Priority access between sessions
  • A standing agenda that you set
  • Three months to begin with, then month to month

One-off options

If a package is more than you need, start with one session.

Discovery call

Twenty to thirty minutes to work out what you are trying to change and which format suits it. If nothing here is right for you, I will say so and point you towards something that is.

Single focused session

One decision, one obstacle, one conversation. This is the right choice when you know exactly what you need to work through and do not want a programme built around it. A short email follow-up is included for the week afterwards.

Where mentoring ends

Mentoring is one person thinking alongside you, so the work stays with you and your own career. When what you need is work done inside your organisation, that is focused advisory, and when it is an executive role held for part of each week, that is fractional leadership.

Always included

What every paid engagement includes as standard.

None of this is an optional extra or a reason to move up a package. It is simply how the work runs, whichever format you choose.

  • A written goal agreed in the first session, so progress is measurable rather than a feeling.
  • A short written summary after every session, setting out what we agreed you would do next.
  • Frameworks and examples drawn from real delivery rather than from generic coaching material.
  • Sessions on video at a time that works where you are, wherever in the world that is.
  • Complete confidentiality, including from anyone who happens to be paying for the sessions.
Fit

Who mentoring is for, and who it is not for.

Who it is for
A good fit
  • Experienced technology professionals deciding what their next move should be.
  • People moving from hands-on delivery into architecture, leadership or a wider remit.
  • Professionals working out what AI honestly changes about the work they do.
  • Anyone preparing for a step up who wants a straight read on whether they are ready.
  • Leaders new to running a technology team who need somewhere to think out loud.
Who it is not for
Not a fit
  • Anyone at the very beginning of a technology career, who is better served by the free learning areas.
  • Life coaching or personal counselling, which deserves a properly qualified professional.
  • A route into a job. I make no introductions and I guarantee no outcome.
  • Hands-on implementation inside your organisation, which is advisory or fractional work.
  • Certification cramming, which the official exam material covers far better than I could.
Next step

Start with a free call and decide from there.

Twenty to thirty minutes on where you are and what you want to change. If mentoring is not the right answer for your situation, I would far rather tell you on that call than after you have paid for something.
